8 Holistic Tips for Radiant Inner and Outer Health
A lot of time with health and ‘beauty’ enhancement we can tend to focus on our outer veneer and don’t recognise the impact of our inner physiological condition, emotions, and indeed our sense of ‘spiritual’ fulfilment when it comes to the quality of what we radiate to others.
People, of course, don’t just look beautiful, they feel beautiful too, feel beautiful to be around for others as they are in good harmony inside, which also helps your appearance too!
And of course, if you are the the Soul lucky enough to be travelling in this well looked after bodily vehicle, both on the inside and out, it also feels darn good to you to! It looks good in the mirror and feels good to be in that body!
- As recognised in Chinese Medicine, the condition of your internal organs reflects in the subtle colour of the skin on the face and body. We are often aware of more well known associations – such as that stressed Kidneys can lead to a blue hue under the eyes – but indeed each organ in the body reflects in the colours we see on the face. For example a Liver imbalance can lead to a greenish hue and a Heart imbalance can be red – a little like when we blush. So regular treatments, such as acupuncture, and activities such as yoga which help to balance the internal organs and alleviate stress from them, shows in your face!
- Similarly the actual structure of the face can be impacted by the condition of the organs. Lets return back to our Liver as an example. The Liver commands the ligaments and tendons within the body, so any excess tension within the organ can reflect in the tension which is apparent within the face, and particularly the jaw area. Teeth grinding can also be a result of Liver stress.
- Complexion. Once again there is a strong correlation between the organs and your complexion. States of excessive heat within the body, combined with what is known as ‘damp’ within Chinese Medicine (which can be exacerbated by consuming too much cold, sweet or mucous forming foods) can lead to eruptions on the face such as acne.
- The whites of your eyes. Once again the Liver plays a huge role in the appearance of your eyes – ever notice how when you’ve had a few drinks the next day your eyes can become bloodshot? So in a chronic sense, if the Liver is continually stressed or toxic the whites of your eyes can become discoloured.
- The gleam of your eyes. The eyes are the window to the soul as the saying goes! So when your Soul is happy with what you are doing in your life – and you are ‘soulful’ – your life is full of activities where you feel at peace and present, reflecting your inner dreams and visions, then this also reflects in what you show to the world.
- Posture. Have you ever noticed that when you are doing something that you really Love that your posture tends to alter. On a subtle level your Heart ‘chakra’ (a nerve plexus or ‘energy centre’ on the front of the body as recognised in Ayurvedic tradition) tends to open to express joy or receive the subtle nourishment from what you are engaging with, which lends itself to a straighter spine. The Heart truly does have a mind of it’s own and when you are enjoying yourself it shows in how your posture presents.
- Your radiance. Otherwise recognised as your ‘vibe’! Following on from how the posture gets affected by the joy in your Heart, so does the radiance – your ‘aura’ or ‘charisma’ – that exudes from your body. The Heart Math Institute in the USA have some particularly interesting research which records that the electromagnetic field of the Heart is much greater than that of the brain and can extend up to 10ft from the body. But when you are doing something you really like, are in a good ‘mood’ and happy in life the electromagnetic field reflects this and has a greater radiance then when you are unhappy, where it becomes contracted.
- How much attention do you give to yourself? Notice how you feel when people put their attention on you, it makes you feel different. Or when you are standing in the supermarket queue and you suddenly, instinctively turn around to find someone staring at you. This is because where you place your attention actually has a tangible impact and has power and potency. However, we spend most of the time with our attention outside of us. So when you sit and allow your attention to come inside, such as with body centred meditation practices, it subtly energises you and adds further to your radiance! If those body centred meditations have a sweet heartfelt quality, or your life is full of that essence, then even better as you’ll be radiating that out too!
